Senior Adult Ministry
Sunday Morning Bible Study Each Sunday morning at 9:45 a.m., a variety of Bible study groups are offered for adults, youth and children. An opening assembly for all senior adults begins at 9:30 a.m. in MB119 (Eisenhauer Hall). Jubilee Luncheons for 2008 We invite all who would celebrate life in Christ to join us the third Tuesday of each month in the dining room for fellowship, programs that inspire, entertain and inform, and a delicious meal. David Messer, chair, leads a committee of Senior Adults to plan programs you most want to experience. $3 is collected for the meal, but first time guests may enjoy their meal as honored guests. Programs for 2008 include: January 15 - Exploring the beginning of Islam. Wayne Jewsbury will walk through the history of Islam as we look at how this religion impacts the daily lives today of its followers. February 19 - Friendship Force: Friendship Force International is a non-profit exchange organization dedicated to the principle that each person can make a contribution to global goodwill. Doug Judkins will be speaking. March 18 - Health Adventure Clowns: Asheville Health Adventure presents Morgana Morgaine, Clown Troupe Founder, as Kabookee the Clown. Be a kid again and enjoy the laughter! It's good for your health! April 15 - Asheville Middle School 8th Grade Band - Concert will be presented in the Sanctuary. May 20 - Jubilee! Choir under the direction of Clark Sorrells in the Sanctuary. Free lunch for all in the dining room following program. June 17 - "Give but Give Wisely": How to watch out for charity fraud. Presented by Norma Messer, President of BBB of Asheville. July 15 - "Lighthouses and their Keepers" presented by Wayne Wheeler, UNCA College for Seniors August 19 - Annual Picnic-Town Mountain-Governor's Western Residence. "A Visit to Grinder's Switch" w/ Betty Ellis as Minnie Pearl September 16 - "The Village of Hope" Bea Clark will tell us about an orphanage in the Ukraine working with street children of Kiev. October 21 - Piano Concert by Dr. Bob Decker November 18 - "A Sorrells' Family Thanksgiving", a musical program, presented by Karen, Clark, Lillie, Hannah & Jacob. December 16 - A Concert of Christmas Music presented by Revonda Young and her sisters
Jubilee Choir Rev. Clark Sorrells leads the Jubilee Choir in celebrating the joy of praising God through music. This choir is open to adults 50 years old and older and has a membership of over sixty people. The choir practices every Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. in Crocker Auditorium. Visitors are always welcome.
Senior Adult Council Events & Day Trips The Senior Adult Council plans events each year that bring spiritual renewal, fellowship, and fun. Other events are offered through the Senior Adult Wholeness Ministry.
Support Team The Support Team provides coordinated simple care to people who are in need of more intense attention, short-term or long-term. The members of the team have committed to provide a meal or transportation, etc., whatever they love to do, when they can do it. The care is coordinated through Sandy Rumsey and Gloria Keown, Support Team Coordinators. Can we help? Please call Leah Brown, Interim Minister with Senior Adults at the church office at 252-4781.
