Spiritual Formation
 |
Spiritual formation is the activity of the Holy Spirit which molds our lives into the likeness of Jesus Christ. This likeness is one of deep intimacy with God and genuine compassion for all of creation. The Spirit works not only in the lives of individuals but also in the church, shaping it into the Body of Christ. We cooperate with this work of the Spirit through practices that make us more open and responsive to the Spirit's touch, disciplines such as sabbath keeping, works of compassion and justice, discernment, worship, hospitality, spiritual friendships, and contemplative silence.

| At First Baptist Church of Asheville, we provide opportunities for the adults, and children, of our church to participate in both traditional forms of Christian education (comprehensive Sunday morning Bible study classes, Christian life and ethics seminars, publication of "in-house" devotional reflections and guides, etc.) and in spiritual exploration/nurture experiences which might be seen as non-traditional by some. These latter initiatives include a contemplative group gathering on Sunday morning during the Bible Study hour, a "Soul Tending" group which meets during the week for accountability-based spiritual development, the regular offering of Lectio Divina in various forums in the church's life, spiritual formation and prayer retreats, and a full range of Disciple Bible Study groups (long-term, intense small-group, covenant Bible study). |

Connection Groups are a great way to meet new friends, to grow in your relationship with God, to have fun, and to make a difference. Everyone is welcome to participate in a connection group, whether a member, a friend of First Baptist from another church, or folks who are simply interested in a topic or event being offered.
We hope you find a group that interests you - a group where you will feel cared for, challenged and inspired.
