Becoming a Member
Why Become a Member? Taking the step to become a member of the church is a signal we send to ourselves and others that we want to belong, to participate more fully, and to link hands and hearts with the community of faith in fellowship and ministry. It's a way of saying 'yes' to caring for one another, making it clear that we are open to share our gifts and talents and to receive the encouragement of the community.
How Do I Join? Most often the way someone presents himself or herself as a candidate for membership is by walking forward during the singing of the hymn of commitment (toward the end of the worship service) and saying to the pastor who is standing at the front that becoming a member is what he or she would like to do.
Ways to Become a Member • By profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, a decision symbolized by believer's baptism by immersion.
• By 'transfer of letter' from another Baptist church.
• By statement of baptism and confession/profession of faith in a church of another tradition or in a church that might no longer have a record of your membership.
• By 'watchcare.' Watchcare members retain their membership in another church but indicate their desire to affiliate with us as well, perhaps because they are in our area temporarily or for part of the year. |
